It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Josephine Blanche “Josie” McDermott announces her passing on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025, with her loving family by her side at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center at the age of 88. Born in LaPoile, Josie was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie (Nee Chant) Neil.

Josie leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughters, Leah (Roland) Spicer, Rita (Clayton) Herritt, Angela (Robbie) Clarke, and Betty McDermott (Alvin Bernard), grandchildren, Patsy (Dwayne) Herritt, Joylene (Justin) Carter, Jenelle Billard, Clinton Herritt (Lisa Harvey), Brendan (Courtney) McDermott, great grandchildren, Marcus, Rylan, Ben, Brice, Layla, Carly, Brock, Cameron, Jack, and Sadie, plus a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Josie was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and she was predeceased by her husband, Kiltie, brother, sisters, and in laws, William, Margaret, Harriet, Clara, Beatrice, and Gerald (Katie) McDermott. Josie was also predeceased by her grandsons, Jerome Spicer and Shannon McDermott, great grandson, Mason Herritt, mother-in-law and father-in-law Gordon and Alice McDermott.

Josie was an avid church goer and loved to be there, loved to play bingo, and to have a good luncheon with her family and friends. Josies family was her whole world, and she loved them all dearly.

Visitations will be held at St. Michaels and All Angels Church on Thursday, February 27th from 7:00-9:00 P.M. and Friday, February 28th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 P.M. The funeral service will take place Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 A.M. with Deacon John Billard officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Flowers graciously accepted or donations in memory of Josie may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
