It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Florence Tufts (nee Harris) on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025, at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center, at the age of 89. Born in Burnt Islands, Florence was the daughter of the late Johnathan and Bertha (nee Courtney) Harris.

Mom was the heart of our home, family and community, and will be dearly missed. She was married for 51 years to her devoted husband, Leslie, and together they raised 12 children in Petites, NL.

Her sense of humor and playful nature brought light to every room and her fondness for foolishness made her a joy to be around. Florence was known for her love of family gatherings where she could always be found in the kitchen, lovingly preparing meals and baking sweets. She was also a proud active member of both the UCW and seniors club, she enjoyed music, bowling, darts, word searches and especially a game of old B, which she played till the very end.

Florence is survived with many loving memories by her 10 children, Queenie (Terry) Lavallee, Helen (Wade) Bateman, Margaret, John, Linda, Ernie (Heather), Cindy (Carl) Duval, Classie (Curtis), Donnie (Janice), Chris (Lisa), along with her 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Florence also leaves to mourn her sisters, Ann Munden, Addie (Gilbert) Keeping, Linda (John) Keeping, and dear friends, Louise Bungay, Jocelyn and Steve Boomgaars, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

We would also like to send a special thank you to caretakers, Cynthia and Betty, Dr. Thomas, as well as the staff at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Leslie, son, Raymond, daughter Classie Lorena, brothers Matthew, Ernest, Roy, and sister Eileen.

Family and friends may visit Oceanside Funeral Home on Friday, April 4th, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Wesley United Church on Saturday, April 5th, at 2:00 p.m., with Joan Chaisson officiating. Interment to follow at Wesley United Cemetery. Flowers graciously accepted in Florence's memory or donations may be made to the Petites Bethany United Church Restoration Fund.
