It is with broken hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Jamie Lorne Keeping announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, with his loving family by his side at Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 50. Born in Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late Lorne and Sherry (nee Pope) Keeping
Jamie leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his loving partner Amelia Walters, his brother Darren (Daele) Keeping, his pride and joy, his nephew, Kache and niece, Remmy, his grandmother Mary Pope, his aunts and uncles, Barbara (Melvin) Harris, Marilyn Hatcher, Hubert Keeping (Pat George), Maxine Keeping (Dermont King), Hickman (Nicole) Keeping, Arlene Keeping (Dennis Courtney),Jim (Lorraine) Keeping and Perry (Trudy) Keeping; Daisy Pope, Bub (Liz) Pope, Lloyd (Gaynia)Pope, Dwayne Pope, Henry Baggs, Marilyn (Reuben) Pope, Cathy (Ted) Dale, and Cynthia Pope; mother and father-in-law, Loretta and Minter Walters, sister-in-law, Felicia Walters(Calman Francis), niece Bethany and nephew Andrew, plus a large circle of cousins, extended family and an even larger circle of friends.
Jamie was predeceased by his grandfather Corwin Pope, grandfather Angus Keeping and grandmother Julia Keeping, Aunt Grace Baggs, Uncle Reginald Hatcher, Uncle Barry Pope, and special family dog Trigger.
Jamie was the most humble, kind hearted soul you could ever meet. His actions were always selfless and he always put everyone else’s interest before his own. He loved his family endlessly, especially his nephew Kache and niece Remmy who he would go to the end of the earth for.
His tremendous strength and resilience throughout the years helped keep the family anchored. He was the partner, big brother, and uncle that allowed us to get through the many hardships we endured.
Jamie loved the sea and meticulously prepared his boat Bosun’s Mate for the summer season every year. On the “water” is where he was happiest. In the winter months, he enjoyed snowmobiling with his buddies and putting on a Boston Bruins game in his man cave by the wood stove.
Jamie enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 1994. He served 7 years in the Royal Canadian Regiment, 1 st Battalion as an Infantry Soldier. During this time, he was deployed overseas in Kosovo and Bosnia. He re-mustered to the Royal Canadian Navy in 2001 and retired after 13 years as a Petty Officer 2 nd Class in 2014. Jamie was proud of his military career. Ultimately, his dream after retirement was to move back to his hometown of Burnt Islands. He built a house across the road from his parents to which he resided until his passing.
