Rose Marie Smith Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Rose Marie Smith announces her peaceful passing on Monday, June 16th, 2025, at Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 69, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Great Codroy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Doreen (nee Gale) Anderson.


Rose leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 50 years, Richard Smith, her son, Ken (Roisin) Smith and daughter, Dale (Shawn) Aube, and her grandchildren, Celeste and Owen Smith, and Caitlin and Lucas Aube.


Rose will also be sincerely missed by hers sisters and brothers, Marg (Gerry) White, Mike (Hilda) Anderson, Francis (Nancy) Anderson, Henry (Diane) Anderson, Greg (Mondella) Anderson, Yvonne (Jim) Rowlands, Catherine Paul, and Fred (Ann) Anderson, brothers and sisters in law, Leonard (Liz) Smith, Irene Ryan, Roland Kendell, Joan (Roddy) Brennan, Lucina Smith, and Barbara (Dan) O’Quinn, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews , friends and extended family.


Rose’s grandkids were her pride and joy. She took every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments.


Rose was known and loved by all for her infectious smile, her laugh, hugs and always ready for a chat. She was a very active member of the community, taking great joy in helping with the Annual Winter Carnival for several years, and Treasurer for the 50+ Club. She was never one to miss a crib game or a dance.


The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Charles L LeGrow Health Centre, namely Dr. Blecher, Dr. Thomas, and heartfelt thank you to nurses Sharon and Baylie, and the rest of the incredible team.


Rose was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Frank and Sophie Smith, brothers and sisters in law, Kevin Smith, Ann Kendall, Gerald Smith, Jimmy Ryan and Dan Paul.


The family will be receiving family and friends at St. Ann’s Church on Thursday, June 19th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m,with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 20th at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Father Prakash, with interment to follow at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery. Flowers accepted or donations in Rose’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques.
