It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late Gladys Porter (nee Dutot) announces her passing on July 17, 2025 in the ICU at Western Memorial Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Gladys leaves to mourn her son Jim and wife Heather of Port Aux Basques, NL, daughter Michelle and husband Maurice Rumbolt of Stephenville NL, granddaughters Kyla of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Kelsey of Port Aux Basques, Angela Clevett (Steve) of Lower Sackville and great granddaughter Charley, her 2 fur babies Riley and Tillie, nieces, nephews and too many friends to name.
Gladys was born and raised in Port aux Basques to Billy and Peggy Dutot. She was the last of her siblings and their spouses, Bill Dutot, Max Dutot(Norma), Charlie Dutot (Nancy), Margariet Devoy (William), David Dutot, and Dan Dutot.
She was also predeceased by her husband Claude of 59 years and his siblings and spouses: Maude Lushman(Jake), Gilbert Porter (Priscilla) Cecil Porter, Frank Porter( Ann) and Allan Porter (Classie). She is survived by two sisters in laws: Leona Billard (Porter) of Oakville, Ontario and Alma Porter of Port Aux Basques.
Gladys was well known in Port Aux Basques as she spent years working as the friendly, listening bartender at Hotel Port aux Basques, High Tide Lounge and the Royal Canadian Legion. Though taken out of school in grade 5, Gladys was eager to learn and completed grade 10 at the District Vocational School in Port Aux Basques. At the age of 41 she returned to school in Stephenville to study cosmetology and opened her own successful business. Gladys shared her wit and humour wherever she went and brought joy to the lives of many through her endless stories and jokes. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest! She faced adversity and trials with strength and humor to the very end!
The family will be receiving guests at the Gateway Seniors 50+ Club Inc, where Gladys was an active member on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 pm.
