He also leaves to mourn sister, Donna (Gerald) Rodgers, and sister-in-law, Eileen Janes, brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert (Sylvia) Osmond, Grace (Roy) Osmond, Margaret (Gerald) Blackmore, Dave Osmond (Nancy Dodge), Joan Glavine, Irene (Ivan) Bragg, Cindy (Hiram) Billard, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Known to many as “The man who walks”, Ned was a constant presence around Port Aux Basques and the Valley out for a walk or riding his bike. Ned was a man with a boisterous personality and a booming voice who once you met him, you never forgot him. He had a love for his family like no other and would light up with pride when talking about his three daughters, his six grandchildren, and his two great grandsons. He had a way of making everyone around him feel special with a big wave, friendly smile or a big hello, and if you were amongst the lucky, a special nickname that was unique to you and you only.
An avid reader, he was always in the middle of a good book by Stephen King, John Grisham, Dean Koontz or a good marvel comic. His love for his teams Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays was known to all. And he would wear his jerseys with pride. He also had an extensive record collection he listened to daily. He was always proud of the time he spent being a goalie for his broom-ball team many years ago. He worked as a stevedore at Marine Atlantic for 42 years and was proud of the time he spent there and the many friends he made. He had been retired 19 years on August 30th.
Ned owned the room the moment he walked into it and was always the life of the party and the last one to leave. He was the cribbage king and loved a good game of crib with “his little bride.” And if he skunked you, he never let you forget it! He worshipped the sun and was proud of his golden-brown tan. He loved summers in his little cabin in coopers brook with Bernice by his side. He appreciated a beautiful day with a blue sky, the green grass, trees, and some berries to pick. His love for life was one that everyone felt around him and it will leave a hole in our hearts for many years to come. Off on another adventure… Go Leafs Go.
Ned was predeceased by his brother, Martin Janes, two infant brothers, brother-in-law, Patrick Glavine, mother and father-in-law, Cecil and Lucy Osmond, plus extended family. Also waiting for him at the gate were his loving puppies, Emma, Luna, and Brandon.
In keeping with Ned’s wishes, cremation has taken place; visitations will be held on Tuesday, September 30th, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 1st at 2:00 P.M from St. Paul’s Anglican Church with Rev. Josh Haggstrom officiating, interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ned’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
