It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Melvin Harris announces his passing on Sunday, November 16th, at the age of 81, with his loving family by his side at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital. Born in Burnt Islands he was the son of the late George and Martha (nee Chaulk) Harris.
Melvin will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara (nee Keeping), his loving children, Michael (Cindy) Harris, Jeffrey Harris (Connie Compton), Melanie (Todd) Smith and Todd Harris (Lacey Croucher), grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Maggie, Sarah, MacKenzie, Abigail and Scarlett.
Melvin was the last surviving member of his family, but will be mourned by brothers-in-law, Henry Baggs, Hubert Keeping (Pat George), Hickman (Nicole) Keeping, Jim (Lorraine) Keeping, Perry (Trudy) Keeping, sisters-in-law, Maxine Keeping (Derm King), Arlene Keeping (Dennis Courtney), plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by brother, Edgar (Millie) Harris, infant brother, Maurice Harris, sisters, Thelma (Mark) Janes, Cedella (Ralph) Hardy, Lorraine (Wallace) James, brother-in-law, Lorne (Sherry) Keeping, and sisters-in-law, Grace Baggs, and Marilyn (Reg) Hatcher.
Family and friends may visit St. George’s Anglican Church in Burnt Islands, on Wednesday, November 19th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 P.M. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 20th at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. John Billard officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Flowers accepted, and donations in memory of Melvin may be graciously made to St. George’s Anglican Church.
