Fred Thorne Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Frederick Thorne announces his passing on Monday, December 15th, at the age of 76 at the Health Science Center, St. Johns. Born in Burnt Islands, he was the son of the late Wilson and Mary (nee Francis) Thorne.


Fred leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, his loving wife of 56 years, Blanche, his sons, Kenny (Lydia), Stanley, daughters, Henrietta, Vicki (Shawn), grandchildren, Kendra (Kiley), Kyle (Carly), Kirkland, Kalen, Wesley, Griffin, Perry, and great grandson, Riley.


He also leaves to mourn his brothers, Roland (Faye), Wilson (Cynthia), Issac (Melvina), Cecil (Cathy), Dorman (Kelly), sisters, Alma (Eric) Hodder, Marina (Morgan) Keeping, Mary Ann (Leander) Ingram, Grace (Edward) Francis, brothers and sisters in law, Allan Day, Lorne Bond, Mildred (Jim) Hynes, Marjorie (Eric) Day, Jean Day, Marilyn Day, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family.


Fred was a true outdoorsman, who loved to spend his time fishing, which was the greatest passion in his life, especially lobster fishing. Freds family was his world. His legacy of love, stories, and hospitality will live on in all of us. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the countless memories he created with us, and the joy he brought into our lives every single day. He will be forever loved and missed.


Fred was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Stanley and Winnifer Thorne, mother and father-in-law Harry and Edith Day, special uncle, George (Harriet) Thorne, brothers and sisters in law, Gladys (Roy) Payne, Lydia (Vincent) Mullins, Marie Bond, John H Day, Willie Day, and son in law, Deon Billard.


Family and friends may visit St. George’s Anglican Church in Burnt Islands, on Thursday, December 18th, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 P.M. and Friday, December 19th from 10: 00 A.M-12:00P.M. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 19th at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. John Billard officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Flowers graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques.
