Alvin Sheaves Obituary

It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late Alvin Clarence Sheaves announces his sudden passing at home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, December 25th, 2025. Born in Port aux Basques, Alvin was the son of the late Clement and Jane Sheaves.


Alvin will be forever missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon, his sons, who he thought the world of, Cory (Kelly) Sheaves, and Sheldon Sheaves. Alvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family, but he also leaves to mourn, his sisters in law, Raylene Sheaves and Edna Sheaves, brother in law, Gary (Donna) Meade, siblings, Michelle (Corey) Pike, Jayne Hann, Junior Bragg, David Bragg, Philip Bragg, Nelson Bragg, Wanda (Ivan) Clevett, Cathy (Paul) Murphy, and Elaine (Geoff) Cook, plus his lifelong friends, Gary Sheaves and Junior Skinner, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.


Alvin was a man with a deep love for his community and volunteering, he spent many hours volunteering with the Lions Club, and the Harbour Authority, but his true passion was with the Port aux Basques Fire Department, of which he was a founding member.


Alvin was predeceased by his mother, Shirley (Clyde) Hann, brothers and sister, Roy Sheaves, Ron Sheaves, Eileen (Amos) White, mother and father-in-law Samuel and Susie Meade, and siblings, Bette (Herb) Lee, Arthur (Judy) Bragg, Bette Bragg, and Sheila Munden


Family and friends may visit Oceanside Funeral Home on Sunday, December 28th, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 7:00-9:00 P.M. and Monday, December 29th, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 7:00-9:00 P.M. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 30th, at 11:00 a.m. from St. James Anglican Church, with Rev. Kuda officiating. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Flowers are accepted, or donations in memory of Alvin can be graciously made to a charity of one’s choice.
