It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Peter James Kilburn announce his peaceful passing at home surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, at the age of 86.

Peter is survived by his children Gary, Heather, Joanne (Bruce), David (Laura), Bruce and Mark (Kim); grandchildren David, Natasha, Jason, Jessica, Brandon, Jordan, Christopher, Brianna and Nathan; sister Barbara (Stephen); step grandchildren Krysta, Justin, Kaitlyn and Meagan, and many loved great grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law Wallace (Marlene), Marie, Tom, Hilda (Dorm), Patsy, Barbara (Emerson), Jean, Stella (Gerard), Shirley (Vince), Sheila (Roy), Marg (Andy), Betty, Debbie (Luke); and a circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends, including Gerard Doyle whose friendship meant the world to him, and his little buddy Walker, who brought so much joy into his life.

He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Violet Kilburn, the love of his life Christina, beloved son David, sisters in law Diane and Marilyn, and brothers in law Butch, Gus, Bob and Jack.

A boy from Scarborough England, whose love of ships and the sea took him around the world during his service with the Royal British Navy. His journey, continued as a shipbuilder throughout the United States and Canada, but Dad’s heart called him to the East Coast where he settled his family in Nova Scotia. Upon retirement he and his ‘Chief Mate’ anchored in Newfoundland where they found a deep sense of contentment and community, where he could live out his glory days tinkering with his model boats and trains, all while fixing anything that was broken.

To his care team at LeGrow Health Centre, to Dr. Blecher and Paula, to the incredible pharmacy team at Vautier’s Pharmacy, to Jodi who made sure he had all the books he could read and all of the beautiful plants that filled his world, to Amy, Gonish, Jamie, Jessica H., Jessica W., Kathy and Nicole-his amazing health care team who provided so much more than Dad’s daily care. They became family who provided laughter and comfort that went way beyond the job. He cherished you all and for that you will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal funeral service. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre Foundation or to St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
