Austin Janes Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Austin Thomas Janes announces his peaceful passing on Thursday, June 25th, 2026, at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center, at the age of 86, with his loving family by his side. Born in Cape Ray, he was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (nee Short) Janes.
Austin will be missed by his god son, Colin Osmond, brother, Harold (Joyce) Janes, sisters, Gertie Carter, Doris (Hebert) Harris, brothers and sisters in laws, Clayton Tapp, Howard (Shirley) Tapp, Gord (Corinne) Tapp, Doreen Pearce, Aubrey (Bob) Anderson, Ivan (Marilyn) Tapp, Robert (Donna) Tapp, Olive Janes, Nina Jeans (Merill Durnford), plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Austin was a quiet man with a jolly laugh, and the ability to spread that laughter to anyone, even on a bad day. His happy place was his cabin in Mckays, where he could enjoy an ice cream, and cook up a good feed for any of the many visitors who stopped by. He was also a proud worker for the Department of Highways, where he put in 30 years dedicated of service. He will be missed greatly by all who loved him.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn Janes, brothers, Alex (Rita) Janes, Joseph Janes, George Janes, Raymond Jeans, Kevin Wall, brothers and sisters in laws, Vera Tapp, George (Alice) Tapp, Laura (Samuel) Gillam, Frank Pearce, and William Carter.
In keeping with Austin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends may visit Oceanside Funeral Home on Sunday, June 28th, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 7:00-9:00 P.M. The funeral service will take place on Monday, June 29th, at 2:00 p.m. from St. John the Evangelist in Cape Ray, with Rev. Canon Josh Haggstrom officiating. Interment to follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Austin may be made to Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center or St. John the Evangelist Church.
