Matilda "Tellie" Bennett Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Matilda “Tellie” Bennett announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Isle aux Morts, she was the daughter of the late John and Amy (nee Coley) Baggs.

Tellie leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her loving husband, Freeman of 52 years, her daughters, Michelle (Leon) Bunter and Amy Bennett, her two grandchildren, whom she was so proud of and loved dearly, Lacey Bennett and Brandon Meade and great grandson, Kai. She will be missed by her sister, Wanda (John) Thorne, nephews, Jonathan (Joanna) Thorne, Matthew (Christa) Thorne, and Richard (Helen) Hodder, Joan Mauger, and her loyal fur-baby Toby, plus a circle of brothers and sisters-in-laws, extended family and friends.

Tellie had a heart of gold, she was kind, compassionate and loving. She loved to play darts and enjoyed playing with her dart family throughout the years. She would do anything for you; she always wore her heart on her sleeve.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Amy Baggs, sister, Annie Hodder, brothers, Herman Baggs and Joe Baggs, and niece, Irma Hankinson.

As per Tellie’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal visitations or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Tellie can be graciously made to Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center or to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques. Words of comfort can be sent to the family by visiting www.oceansidefh.ca.
