Obituary of Margaret Rose O'Regan
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, our loving mother, Margaret Rose O’Regan, (nee Moore) passed away peacefully at home with family at her side. Born in 1930, Margaret lived most of her life in the Codroy Valley and considered her home the best place on earth, with many hours spent painting the incredible landscapes.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Margaret….picking May flowers, chatting with family and friends, bird watching, and hiking up Brooms Brook with her children and grandchildren. She also loved a rip roaring game of cards followed by a little cup of wine.
Margaret was a voracious reader with a great love of Newfoundland authors and enjoyed writing herself, with published pieces in Reader’s Digest and Our Canada magazines. Margaret often kept family and friends rolling in laughter, as she could find humour in the most mundane life circumstances. She was beautiful, smart, witty, talented, and tough. Her saucy side charmed anyone who was blessed to have met her.
An idyllic grandmother, Margaret delighted in the company of her grandchildren. She shared her time freely through stories, games, sewing instruction, driving lessons, or a snack pack, passing on her wisdom with soft, gentle, humour.
In her true spirit, Margaret was tenaciously her wonderful self right to the end. A woman of many facets, she was a true gem.
Margaret will be fondly remembered by sons Michael (Pouy), Patrick (Kathy), Gerard (Diana), Barry, Tom (Roseanne) and daughter Anne (Philip) Meaney, along with 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Andrew Augustus O’Regan and baby daughter Mary; her parents Alec Moore and Gertrude (Locke) Anderson; and brothers Dave, Tom, Mike, Leonard; and sisters Winnie, Lucy, Trudy and Marie.
Friends may visit St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry on Friday, May 12th from 7-9 pm, with funeral services taking place Saturday, May 13th at 11:00 am with Fr. Edward Terry officiating. Internment to follow at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Great Codroy. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques, 695-7010.
