Obituary of J. Albert Samms

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather; John “Albert” Samms on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Western Health Long Term Care in Corner Brook at the age of 85. Born in Codroy, Albert was the son of the late John Albert and Charlotte Samms, and he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Albert leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 60 years, Doretta (née Parsons) Samms, his loving sons, Glenn (Jerona) Samms and Wayne Samms (Katherine Estey), his grandson, Christopher. He also leaves to mourn sisters and brothers in laws, Ronald MacInnis, Leona Edstrom, Wilfred (Bernice) Parsons, Catherine (Larry) Pittman and Suzanne Parsons, a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by brother, Frederick (Joyce) Samms, sister, Bernice (Joseph) Gillis, sisters-in-laws, Jacqueline Parsons and Ada MacInnis brother-in-law, Philip Edstrom. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 21 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Codroy. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. from the Holy Trinity Church, Codroy with Rev. Faye Coffin officiating, at the request of the family, a mask is strongly recommended.
