Obituary of Ernest Chant

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ernest Thomas Chant announces his passing on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 80 years of age at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook. Born in LaPoile, he was the son of the late Charles and Ivy (nee Francis) Chant. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten by loving wife, Janie (nee Strickland) of 58 years, his loving children, Janice (Derrick) Hatcher, Cindy (Herman) Keeping, Daphne (Sheldon) Harvey, Scott (Tara) Chant and Travis Chant (Samantha Campbell), and most of all his precious grandchildren, Kristylee (Sheldon) Collier, Derrick Hatcher (Willena White), Brady Harvey, Hayley Hatcher, Irma Keeping (Sheldon Crosbie), Mackenzie Chant (Nicholas Thorne), Hannah, Brianna, Avery and Breighan Chant, and great grandson, Charlie Collier. Also left to mourn: sisters, Elizabeth Taylor, Mabel Savery and Alice (Fred) Francis, brother, Clyde (Daphne) Chant, sisters and brothers in law, Classie (Jim) Keeping, Juanita (Lewis) Perry, Allan (Maisie) Strickland, Sarah Mae Croucher, large circle of nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends. Ernest was predeceased, by brothers-in-laws, Cecil Taylor, Carl Savery and James Strickland.
The family will receive visitors from St. George’s Anglican Church, Burnt Islands on Sunday, May 22 from 7-9 p.m. and Monday, May 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. from St. George’s Anglican Church in Burnt Islands, with Rev. Dianna Fry officiating. In keeping with Ernest’s wishes, cremation to follow and a private family interment to follow. Flowers graciously accepted or donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort can be sent to the family by visiting www.oceansidefh.ca
