Obituary of Frank Matthews

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frank William Matthews announces his passing on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 74 year of age at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s after a short illness, with his loving family by his side. Born in Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Emma (nee Butt) Matthews. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Frank will be sadly be missed by his loving wife, Carol-ann (nee Bragg) of 55 years (May 17,1967) his loving daughters, Paula Gould (friend Danny), Moncton, NB and Sandi Swinemer, Edmonton, Alberta, grandchildren, Devyn Gould, Fort McMurray, Isaac Swinemer(Taylor Harris), Edmonton, AB, Brett Gould, Edmonton, AB, Madison Swinemer (Miguel Cormier) Edmonton, AB, Kelsey Gould, Riverview, NB and Cameron Matthews-Touchie, Mocton, NB and great grand puppies, Sadie, River and Gunner.
Also left to mourn, brother, Bob Matthews, Greenwood, NS and sister, Pauline Samms, Port aux Basques, special nephew, John (Chrissy) Spencer, whom he loved dearly, sisters and brothers in laws, Josie Spencer, Dartmouth, NS, Sharon White, Roberta (Dave) Savory, Lloyd (Janice) Bragg, Richard Bragg (Paulette Ford) all of Port aux Basques and Donna (Kenny) Munden, Burnt Islands, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and a large circle of friends.
Dad was very loved by all who met him with his laughter and kind heart, always loved to help others. His life was the sea and that were he will be. His pride and joy was his grandkids. Frank enjoyed his many daily trips to Tim Horton’s to spend time with the many friends that he met over the years.
Frank was predeceased by son, Frankie and son-in-law, Mike Gould, brothers, Ross, Stephen, Patrick, Sydney, Henry, George Spencer, Claude and David Matthews, sisters, Eileen Rose, June and Ruth Spencer, father and mother in law, George and Mary Bragg, brother-in-law, Albert White.
In keeping with Frank’s wishes, cremation has taken place; visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2nd from 2:00 -4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street Port aux Basques, family service to follow. In lieu of flowers donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Oceanside Funeral Home.
