It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Matthews on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre with her loving family by her side at the age of 83. Born in Port aux Basques, she was the daughter of the late Bessie and Thomas Blackmore. Barbara was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Barbara leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her son, Craig (Diane) Matthews, Port aux Basques, and daughter, Norma (Craig) Snow, Quispamsis, NB, grandchildren, Tracey (Terry) Tavener, Ont, Krista (Chris) Grant, Ont, Kaelen (Kelsey) Snow, NB and her great grandchildren, Danni and Harper Tavener and Jake and Ben Grant all of Ontario and large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Barbara loved her knitting and sewing.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Matthews in 2001, her brothers, Howard, Enos, Fred and sisters, Marie, Geneive, Eileen, Mildred and Vena and Shirley.

Thanks to Dr. Thomas, staff at Mountain Hope Manor, nurses at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre for their care given to our mom.

Family and friends may visit Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques on Tuesday, December 20 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 21 from 2:00 -4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. from St. James Anglican Church with Rev. Jane Allen officiating with interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill.
