It is with great sadness that the family of the late Merina Mauger announce her peaceful passing on Friday, April 28th 2023 at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Center, at age 96, with her loving family by her side.
Merina loved berry picking on nice days, and could always be found quilting quilts for her beloved family. She loved her children and family greatly, and was the world’s best Mom and Nan.
Born in Rose Blanche, Merina was the daughter of the late John and Esther Hardy.Merina leaves with many precious memories, her daughters, Valetta (Myril) Penney, Sadie (Dan) Chislett, Alice (Fred) Billard, Peg (John) Toope, Sheila (Melvin) Hardy, Jacqueline (Ron) Squires and Mildred (Hartley) Skinner, sons, Willie (Gloria), Larry (Diane), Melvin (Joyce) and Dave, loving grandmother to 26 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She also will be sadly missed by her sister, Sylvia Wagg, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Merina was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, infant son, Sydney Wayne, son, Jerry Roland, sisters, Dorothy, Sarah, Alice and brother Roderick.

Family and friends may visit Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques on Sunday, April 30th from 2:00 -4:00 & 7:00 -9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday, May 1st at 2:00 p.m. from Wesley United Church with Joan Chaisson officiating, with interment to follow at Wesley United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Merina can be made to the Wesley United Church or charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort can be sent to family by visiting www.oceansidefh.ca
