Obituary of Donald Matthews

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald Matthews announce his passing on Tuesday, July 4th, at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Center with his loving family by his side at the age of 78. Born in Port aux Basques, Donald was the son of the late Alex and Ethel Matthews. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Sheila Matthews (nee White). Donald also leaves with many fond memories, his son Kenny (Amanda) Matthews, his pride and joy, grandsons, Griffin and Murphy, brother, Rex Matthews, brothers and sisters in law, Claudine Matthews, Mildred Matthews, Barbara Skinner, Marie White, Olive Little, Russell (Helen) White. Donald was predeceased by brothers, Ambrose Matthews and Stan Matthews, sister, Harriet (Bob) Bentley, sisters in law, Clara Matthews and Priscilla Hynes. The family would like to send special thanks to Mackenzie Ambulance and the staff of Dr. Charles LeGrow Hospital In keeping with Donald’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitations or funeral service. A graveside service will take place on Friday, July 7th at 2:00 P.M from Wesley United Cemetery, with Joan Chaisson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Donald can be made graciously to the family. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques.
