Please share a memory of Helena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Helena Mary O’Quinn announces her passing on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre, at age 68, with her loving family by her side. Born in Upper Ferry, Helena was the daughter of Frank and Margaret (nee Delaney) MacArthur. Helena leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 45 years, Gregory O’Quinn, her sons, Kurt and Francis. She will never be forgotten by brothers and sisters, Allan (Joan) MacArthur, Lydwine MacArthur (Buds), Carina Hynes and Blaine MacArthur (Colleen Fennell), brothers and sisters in laws, Sybil, Lydwena, Beatrice, Terry (Cathy), Brian (Ann), Alex (Rose), Lori (Terry), Theresa (Robert), Marion, Anita, Lucy (Allen), large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Helena was predeceased by her brothers, Desmond, Brendan and Quentin, mother and father-in-law, George and Agnes O’Quinn, brothers and sisters in laws, Danny, Mike, Wilfred, Kathleen, Wallace, Ronald, Vince and Frank. Helena was a wonderful homemaker. She loved cooking, baking and providing for her family. She took great pride in keeping her house clean and tidy. She worked at various jobs including store clerk and homecare worker. She was well respected by her coworkers. When her mom got sick, Helena gave up her job and focused her time on caring for her for several years. This was not an easy job but Helena never complained. When her mom passed, she continued to care for her dad until he passed. She was very appreciative of any kind gesture shown her. The smallest gift was received as a treasure. She loved being offered meals or sweets. She never forgot any occasion and called to wish you a Happy birthday/anniversary or whatever occasion there was. Helena loved her family above all. Her boys were her pride and joy, she always talked kindly of them. She often bragged about how good they were to her. She loved her husband dearly and was proud to be his wife. She will be immeasurably missed by all those who knew her. In keeping with Helena’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, October 6th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. a Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. with Father A Prakash officiating. Interment to follow at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Great Codroy. In memory of Helena, flowers graciously accepted, or donations may be made graciously to the family. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques, 695-7010. Words of comfort can be sent to the family by visiting www.oceansidefh.ca
