It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernice Sheaves (Chaulk) announces her passing on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the age of 90 with her loving family by her side at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL. Born in Channel, Port aux Basques, she was the daughter of the late George and Ellen (nee Coffin) Chaulk. Bernice leaves to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories, her loving children, Lloyd (Luann) Sheaves, Gary (Glenis) Sheaves, both of Port aux Basques, and Karen (Scott) Strickland, Kentville, Nova Scotia. A proud Grandmother and Great Grandmother, she will be missed by her grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Sheaves, Port aux Basques, Randy (Karen) Sheaves, Ilderton, ON, Kathy Sheaves (Norman Dominie), Port aux Basques, Samantha (Richard) Gorth, Kingston, NS, Trevor (Jenna) Strickland, Coldbrook, NS, great grandchildren, Summer, Brooke, Dylan, Kyla, William, Macie, Jace, Lucas, Scott, Sophie, Georgia. She will remain in the hearts of her sisters and brothers, Margie Payne, Port aux Basques, Lillian (James) Ford, Bedford, NS, Elias Chaulk, Swift Current, SK, Hubert (Dulcie) Chaulk, Port aux Basques, Eric (Elaine) Chaulk, Fredericton, NB, sister in laws, Jane Chaulk, Port aux Basques, Ruth Fraser, California, brother-in-law, Eric Carew, Port aux Basques, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. Bernice was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd Sheaves (1988); brothers, George Chaulk Jr, Jim Chaulk, brother and sister in laws, Lorne Payne, Delores Chaulk, Wilfred (Eileen) Sheaves, Joseph (Dorcas)Sheaves,Fred Sheaves, Eric (Mary) Sheaves, Lewis (Madeline) Sheaves, Robert (Florence) Sheaves, Clifford (Aneitha) Sheaves, Richard Fraser, Edith (Bob) Sheppard and Sylvia Carew. Mom devoted her life to caring for her family; always filling her home with love, warmth, and kindness. She loved to have people visit and welcomed everyone into her home for a cup of tea and a lunch, hospitality like no other. Mom was strong in her faith; loved her church and the fellowship of volunteering. She was an active member of the ACW for many years and cherished the many friendships made over the years. Special thanks to Dr. Thomas, Rev. Jane, the staff of Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre and staff of Mountain Hope Manor for the care and compassion shown to our mom over the last year. The family will be receiving family and friends on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00 -9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 11:00 from St. James Anglican Church with Rev. Jane Allen officiating. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill and a lunch to follow at St. James Anglican Memorial Hall.
