Obituary of Gerald Parsons

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Gerald Parsons announce his passing on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side at the age of 76. Born in Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Mary (Gibson) Parsons. Gerald leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, his loving wife of 52 years, Marie Parsons (nee MacLellan), his loving daughter, Michelle (Don) House, sons, Paul (Tara) Parsons, Stephen (Carolyn) Parsons, Craig (Jody) Parsons, Andrew (Chrissy) Parsons, and John Parsons, and his pride and joy his grandchildren, Luke, Connor, Bauer, Ella, Owen, Benjamin, Avery, Nash, Will, Sarah, Oak, and North. He will never be forgotten by his brothers, Bill (Gwen) Parsons and Richard (Donna) Parsons, sister, Sandra (Bob) Hillier, and sisters in law Bernadette Conrad and Gerardine (Edwin) Gale, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Gerald was predeceased by his brother, Joe Parsons, sisters, Muriel and Marilyn Parsons, brothers in law, Walter Conrad, Kelvin, Jerry, and Allan MacLellan, and his mother and father-in-law, Allan and Mary MacLellan. Gerald loved the outdoors and could often be seen with his hands in the ground gardening around the family home, which was the backdrop to memories that were created there. Many were drawn to Gerald’s personality as he could chat or debate with the best of them. Gerald will be remembered as a man who had the brains, heart and ability to do anything in the world he set his sights on. Thankfully, he did not waste his talent as he lived his best life and accomplished what he valued as most important; being a great man for his family and friends, especially his wife Marie, children and grandchildren. Gerald was in his element with his children and later his grandchildren watching and celebrating their accomplishments in hockey, soccer and basketball. He will be missed by all who loved him, but we know he will still be watching, just with a better view. In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving family and friends at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Upper Ferry, on Wednesday, June 12 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. with a wake service starting at 7:30 P.M. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. Father Prakash officiating, with interment to follow at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Upper Ferry. Flowers graciously accepted, or donations in Geralds memory can be made to ALS Society. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques.
