Obituary of Isaac Gillam

Please share a memory of Isaac to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our lives were forever changed on August 29, 2024, when we lost our beloved father and poppy, Isaac “Ike” Gillam, at the age of 71. Born in Port aux Basques, Ike was the son of the late George and Dulcie (Pearce) Gillam. With many loving memories, Ike leaves to mourn his children Rhonda (Duane) McOnie, Nadine (Andy) Ransome, and Wayne (Cindy) Gillam as well as his grandkids Avery & Deklan Gillam. He will be sadly missed by his sisters and brothers, Elaine (Eric) Chaulk, Geraldine (William) Fudge, Sandra (Roger) Osmond, Donna (Don) Payne, Dave Gillam (Mary Hefferman), and Roxanne (Melvin) Fiander, brother-in-law, Emmanuel Lawrence, as well a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by brother, Roland Gillam and sister, Linda Lawrence. Ike spent 40 years working with Marine Atlantic. After retiring, he made his home in the valley, where he enjoyed the remainder of his life. A passionate hockey fan, Ike loved cheering on the Detroit Red Wings. He had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in fishing, moose hunting, and bird hunting. Known for his helpful nature, Ike was always ready to lend a hand whenever needed. He cherished the company of family and friends, whether it was to chat, play guitar or share a drink. Ike adored his two grandchildren and his love for them was boundless. He treasured every moment spent with them, especially with his grandson Deklan, often affectionately called "Little-Ike." The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Moncton City Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during Ike's final week. Their kindness and ability to bring a smile to his face meant the world to him and his loved ones. In keeping with Ike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday, September 5th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 6th at 2 PM, at St. James Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, with Rev. Jane Allen officiating. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers and with Ike’s affection for children, donations can be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital or any Children’s Charity of your choice.
